Pre-Season Training

The marching band experience begins in late August with pre-season training.  The entire marching band and staff travel to Timber Lake Camp in the scenic Catskill Mountains of New York State for six days of intensive preparation and leadership training.  These days are instrumental in welcoming and teaching the new members all the "basics" while veteran members brush up on their skills.  It is the first opportunity for freshmen to become acquainted with students from all grades and bands in the high school.  There are sectional and ensemble rehearsals, with expert instructors providing insight into all areas of music, marching, movement, and dance.

While preparation for performance is the main focus of these days, there is also time to relax, have fun, and enjoy the camp's excellent facilities.  An Olympic sized swimming pool as well as basketball and tennis courts are available during break times.  Evening activities include ice cream and pizza socials, a pool party, and the annual skit night.  Of course, there is plenty of adult supervision and all school rules are strictly enforced.
