This is a select group of musicians who are chosen through an audition process which occurs in early November. The Jazz Big Band, under the direction of Mr. Gary Fink, meets weekly in the band room on Tuesday nights from 7:30 - 10:00 PM. The Jazz Lab, under the direction of Mr. Jeffrey Haas, meets weekly in the orchestra room on Tuesday nights from 7:30 - 9:30 PM. Audition Information Audition requirements include: memorization of blues and dorian scales, a prepared etude, sight reading, and improvisation. Audition materials for the 2007- 2008 school year are below. 2007 Auditions: There will be a mandatory meeting for all students who plan to audition for the jazz bands on Tuesday, November 13 at unit lunch as originally printed in the Booster Calendar. The meeting will take place in the Band Room. Date of Auditions- Monday November 19, beginning at 7pm INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Print out the Student Information Sheet and the Jazz Contract, fill them out, and bring them to the audition. 2. Print out the following sheets for your specific instrument: Woodwinds: Scales Page 1, Scales Page 2 and Solo Trumpet: Scales and Solo Trombone: Scales and Solo Piano/ Vibes: Scales and Solo (Vibes Right Hand Only) Guitar: Scales and Solo Bass: Scales and Solo Drumset: Basic Drumbeats and Solo 3. Improvisation for all instruments (except drums) is based upon 12 bar blues in Bb or F concert.
