Ridgewood High School Winter Twirling Program

The winter twirling program offered at Ridgewood is a great opportunity for anyone to twirl baton. This class will teach beginning twirlers basic skills needed for performance, and will help experienced twirlers advance their repetoire and ability. Many members who twirl during the winter season strengthen twirling skills in preparation for the fall field show. Students from the high school are welcome to participate in a wonderful and different sport.
Unlike many programs offered at the high school, you may participate in winter twirling and still have time for other activities such as winter guard, percussion ensemble, and selected sports. Classes begin in early January and go until the end of May. Classes are held at RHS Campus Center on Mondays from 4:00 - 5:00 PM.

The Ridgewood High School Winter Guard

The winter guard program incorporates dance, performance, body technique, and flag and sabre spinning. All of these elements are combined into an intense show designed for competition. This is a great opportunity to develop poise and grace alongside a sense of rhythm and showmanship. Along with the aspects of performance, the winter guard members learn life skills such as discipline, dedication and leadership.
Most people who join winter guard are members of the marching band’s dance ensemble, but experience is not required. Students come from all over the high school to practice and perform together. In the process, strong friendships will develop.
This group performs around the state of New Jersey and also takes road trips to places such as Norristown, PA. These competitions provide an exciting opportunity to perform for large audiences.
The winter guard rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 PM, and additional practices and performances are held on weekends.
Auditions are held in the beginning of December, and the season concludes with championships in the early spring.
